Somewhere, in the folds of the universe, is a mansion filled with art. Each room houses a discipline. Many enter this building and discover the craft of acting. Others enter and learn to write plays, direct musicals, or sing. However, one room is usually overlooked. This isn't surprising. Often the room is mislabeled, misplaced or just misunderstood. But that is exactly what the room wants.
Were you to happen upon this room you would see a dusty shadowed stage, a mysterious backdrop and a door leading to darkness. Beyond the door stands magic, alone, grinning in the dark.
Those brave individuals that dare stare into the blackness will often argue about what it is they see. Its soul is as debated as its form. Some will tirein the attempt and move to tricks and pamphlets that endlessly line the walls. Others will simply leave the room in search of an art that is easier to see and comprehend. A choice few will watch, debate, and in the end come to understand the figure in a way that most magicians will never know.
Come, let us argue about the meaning of magic. Let us all develop strong feelings and philosophies about how to conjure, entertain, and amaze. Its not as important to agree on what we see, as it is for each of us to learn to see for ourselves. That is the essence of wonderful magic. The greatest magic theory you will discover, is the one you craft for yourself.
